I Want To Be Free
I want to be three,
I want to scream,and shout,
I want to jump in puddles,
Kick autumn leaves about!
I want to be three,
I want to play with abandon,
I want to scream with glee,
Bash drums dressed as a bandsman!
I want to be three,
I want to be swaddled in love,
I want the sleep of the innocent,
Snuggled up like a hand to a glove.
I want to be free,
I want no deadlines,or pains,
I want the sleep of the innocent,
To awaken in a land where childhood forever reigns.
I want to be free!

ReplyDeleteah i want that as well...what fun it would be to be a kid again and know what we know now...
ReplyDeleteLovely. I can picture myself in wellington boots jumping in puddles at three, before the stress of school started! A beautiful poem that sounds almost like a lullaby.

Me, too!
ReplyDeleteI long for that land as well, you captured its essence well, Now I cant stop myself to go and look at some childhood's pics. :)
ReplyDeleteIt does sound attractive, but think of all the wonder you'd miss that can only be enjoyed through expanded experience. Great stuff, here, Kez!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I want to be free too! I miss my childhood. Enjoyed the images you invoked. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice not to have any responsibilities but I have to agree with Kim, life is a journey which we must all experience..the good & the bad.
ReplyDeleteNice write though.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
really nice poem. Really like the repetitive set up followed up by the switch. Worked very well for me, thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteMe, too :)
ReplyDeleteI too like the repetition with change-up. Beautiful poem!
ReplyDeleteUp until First grade I had it made. Then the responsibilities came! lol But summer still reigned supreme!
ReplyDeleteYes! I want to be three, I dream of going back that far and starting over, never forsaking the fun that life is supposed to offer. We should all have one day a week where we can kick and scream and run and play, and all those things that remind us this ol'life is really worth living! Loved this...especially today! Thank you
ReplyDeleteI remember (vaguely) being three/free. It was just like you wrote. Good poem.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I want to be free. You express this well

A Pure and simple poetic relief contrastd against a backdrop of infinite depth; a remarkable symphony of diametrics that is altogether pleasing.
