I Don't Like Mondays

I Don't Like Mondays
Banksy
On one side of a our globe
A baby stirs, yawns,
Safe from every tiny microbe,
The sun rises, Monday dawns
On green mowed and tended lawns.

The other side of our globe
A child stirs, stomach aching,
Attacked by every tiny microbe,
The sun rises, Monday's baking
On children hunger fuelled awakenings.

Mondays may fill us with dread,
With the whole working week looming ahead,
So take heed and keep in your mind,
The life of a child across the world,
Not just Monday, But a daily grind
Their struggle to remain alive
 Survive !

Take action

  1. that's sooooo right... most people don't appreciate what a life they have. a Monday is nothing compared to what those children go through on a daily basis... and here we are, complaining about the smallest of things.

  3. Wow. We take so much for granted. I'd gladly take a week full of Mondays if it would give suffering children a better life.

  8. Goosebumps Kerry! Seriously...hang my head in shame as I think of all my petty, silly complaints...but turning to gratitude for my many blessings, and prayers for those without. A wonderful message...You rock!

  9. You paint a very vivid contrast here-- it really does make you stop and think. Even the "poor" here are generally so much better off than the poor in some other places on this globe. Thank you for sharing.

  11. That's so true and should make us all stop and think. The word "Monday," and even the whole idea of what it means to some of us, the end of a fun weekend perhaps, the start of another grinding week, but it has no meaning at all to the boy in your image. He's not starting or ending anything, this day is just like the last, another day to carry his bucket to the fly infested stench of garbage that he will forage through in hopes of finding some sustenance to live just another day, or to take home to his little sister or mother who is too weak to join him..... Monday is no day....

  12. The child does not know what day it is today, yesterday or tomorrow. All days are alike. The hunger and misery never change.
